The Perspective
A contemplative and spirit-forward cocktail crafted with spicy rye whiskey, complex Bénédictine, and sweet vermouth. An absinthe rinse provides a subtle, ethereal aroma, reflecting the film's experimental and subjective viewpoint.
Ingredients
- 1 tsp (for rinse) Absinthe
- 2 oz Rye Whiskey
- 3/4 oz Sweet Vermouth
- 1/4 oz Bénédictine D.O.M.
- 2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
- 1 (for garnish) Lemon Peel
Instructions
- Chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass by filling it with ice or placing it in the freezer.
- Once chilled, discard the ice. Add the absinthe to the glass, swirl to coat the entire inner surface, and discard any excess.
- In a mixing glass filled with ice, combine the rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, Bénédictine, and Peychaud's bitters.
- Stir with a bar spoon for about 20-30 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled and properly diluted.
- Strain the cocktail into the prepared absinthe-rinsed glass.
- Take the lemon peel, and express its oils over the surface of the drink by squeezing it pith-side down. Drop the peel into the glass as a garnish.
Inspiration
This cocktail mirrors the film's introspective and experimental nature. The strong rye base represents the central figure, 'Man,' while the complex layers of sweet vermouth and herbal Bénédictine symbolize his intricate thoughts and memories. The absinthe rinse provides an altered aromatic lens, directly translating the movie's core concept of experiencing the world 'through the eyes of a man' into a drinkable, contemplative experience.
